Who We Are

Founded in 1871, Ebenezer Baptist Church was born to serve the African American Community in Orange, NJ. Ebenezer has maintained a strong commitment to the greater Orange community for almost 150 years. Over the years our ministry has grown to include a food pantry and soup kitchen, twice weekly NA/AA meetings, we have served as a home for the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America. We are now in our fourth consecutive year of offering a weekly job fair that has helped more than 3000 people gain employment, we have an onsite drug counselor once per week, free programs for youth monthly, a free math tutoring program for children ages 4 – 10, as well as annual scholarships for EBC students and others. Finally, we have incubated two non-profits; Not Orange, a Nationally recognized anti-violence group, and the Williams Street Initiative, a community group focused on improving the quality of life on William Street. 

As a result of the lockdown imposed by the Covid-19 Global Pandemic, EBC has expanded her ministry to the online community. The Virtual EBC Community has launched a new website, and utilizes social media platforms like FaceBook, Instagram, and Youtube, to reach a global community of more than 1,000 strong and growing. Our ministry is now broadcast into 15 states and 44 foreign countries. Far more lives are now touched by EBC than we ever could have by worshipping inside the four walls alone. We have always believed that the church is not the building, it’s the people. This moment has forced us to fully embrace that theology. And now we’re proud to say, this living, giving, and loving church has no boundaries. We are the church.
